Franklin Community Library

Elk Grove, CA
Sacramento Public Library (County of Sacramento) and
Elk Grove Unified School District
Franklin Community Library sits at the point where Franklin High School, Toby Johnson Middle School and the community as a whole come together. Each of these user groups approaches the library from a different direction, making the entry to the building very important. A freestanding curved wall welcomes students coming from each side while the tall volume of the entry hall extends through the wall, marking the public's approach to the library. The high volume space of the entry hall extends into the reading room, welcoming learners of all ages to the heart of the library.

The reading room at the Franklin Community Library is large enough to satisfy its many program requirements. Seating for over 200, shelving for over 50,000 volumes, a children's library and capacity for up to 70 general use computers are integrated into a single room. Low shelving allows supervision of the various areas through the reading room and from the circulation and reference desks.
