Kirkwood Ski Lodge

Kirkwood, CA
The Lodge At Kirkwood
Located fifty miles southeast of Lake Tahoe in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, the Kirkwood Valley is subject to extreme winter conditions, including the most snow pack of the surrounding resorts. Design and construction had to accommodate these winter conditions, as well as an active seismic geology.

Stafford King Wiese ARCHITECTS (in association with another architect) designed an exterior of expansive glass, warm wood and rock, which fits the commercial and residential buildings of the neighboring village. The classic ski lodge experience is reflected in the great room lobby, with its immense fireplace, cozy bar and awe-inspiring views, retail plaza and guest rooms. Fifteen floor plans for nineteen single and two-story units vary from one bedroom, one and a half bath to four bedroom, four and a half bath, and from 870 to 2,413 square feet. Condominium units boast wood-burning fireplaces, private decks, state-of-the-art appliances, wood and tile accents, steam showers and underground parking.
