This training facility for Sacramento Municipal Utility District's (SMUD) linemen and field employees includes modernization of a 4,700 s.f. existing structure and various new construction work. A 2,500 s.f. building addition will be added to the existing on-site building to include a high-bay (25 foot height minimum) training facility with telephone poles, transformer towers and on-slab training apparatuses, as well as other training devices. Also included will be a new 2,000 s.f. roof-only
new structure.A separate 5,700 s.f. building is being added to the site to provide additional training facilities. The new structure will include three classrooms for 16-20 students each, administrative office space, a conference room, a break room, restrooms, lockers/showers and an aerobics training room.
The new training building is being designed to LEED Silver certification criteria and
will pursue coordination upon completion. Sustainable design elements include photovoltaic cells, storm water collection, operable glazing for daylighting, views and ventilation, and high performance heat pumps. Recycled timber poles as well as recycled and sustainable architectural finishes will be used in construction of the building.
