Solid Waste Administration Building

Sacramento, CA
County of Sacramento
This AIACC award-winning project provides 14,000 square feet of administrative headquarters for Sacramento County's Collections Section of Waste Management and Recycling Division. The triangular shape and the three-quarter acre site were the critical design challenges, which led to a two-story solution. The building's plan and three-dimensional form reflect the unique geometry of the site.

Interior area consists of office space, conference rooms and support areas, shower/locker facilities, training rooms, lunchroom and indoor assembly spaces for route drivers. Exterior program components include parking, employee patio lunch area and landscaping, to aesthetically enrich this traditionally austere industrial environment.

The building utilizes split face concrete block, metal siding, and glass curtain wall to achieve a dramatic form. The braced hot and cold formed steel construction frame allows for future conversion to open office space. The design team incorporated highly efficient materials, systems and detailing into the facility.
