George W. Bush Elementary School

Stockton, CA
George W. Bush Elementary School
George W. Bush Elementary School is the second site adaptation of building plans originally designed by SKW for Stockton Unified School District. The K-5 campus plan relates the buildings in a logical pattern. The administration office and multipurpose building are accessed from the entry tower, which marks the front of the school and signals the transition to a community-centered institution of learning. All classroom teaching walls utilize a "smart wall" with storage, television and projection capabilities. Their unique shape maximizes wall space and adds a fifth corner area to the standard sized rooms. Other classrooms are housed in modular buildings, which define two outdoor spaces, one for primary grades and one for elementary grades. Clerestory windows were used to provide daylight in many of the shared spaces, such as the multipurpose building and library.
