Nevada County Campus

Grass Valley, CA
Sierra Joint Community College District
A new satellite campus for the Sierra Joint Community College District, this project included the master planning and design of ten buildings, both one and two-story. It was designed to blend into the wooded Sierra foothills. The buildings were designed to compliment those in the adjacent gold rush era town.

The small pond was developed to serve as a reflecting pool and a reservoir for fire fighting purposes.  The campus features a state-of-the-art learning resource center with interactive classrooms and TV studio. Administration functions are electronically linked to the Sierra College campus in Rocklin, CA.

The campus is both fiber-optically interlinked to teaching and broadcasting, and with a neighboring high school district.  The major site features are a hilltop and an extensive grove of native pine and spruce trees. The EIR Report required minimum disruption to the existing view sheds of this site from the surrounding community.
