Sacramento, CA Sacramento City College Learning Resource Center |
This Learning Resource Center is a three story 81,000 s.f. building. The exterior of this building was designed to match the original campus with the use of bricks, clay tile roofs
and concrete columns at the entry and GFRC panels at the eaves to create a timeless appearance. Interior finishes were designed around the thirties theme of the 70-year-old campus, featuring wood columns, column capitals, crown moldings, terrazzo floors, a grand staircase, and a two story atrium entry.
The facility is state-of-the-art, with TV studio, control room, group viewing room, as well as scene storage room and guest waiting room. Additional facilities include interactive classrooms, multi-image room, graphics room
and traditional library spaces with stacks, group study rooms and faculty/staff facilities. Crowning the facility is a special collections room, housing rare books and archives.
Site design was particularly difficult, as the existing facility had to be demolished and the new facility placed while classes were in session. The new layout expanded parking, allowed for additional out buildings while keeping the traffic flow smooth for pick-up and drop-off.
