Cheblyabinsk, Russia

Chelyabinsk Healthcare System introduces new healthcare initiatives to region.

The province of Chelyabinsk, Russia has an initiative to encourage young couples to start families because the region’s death rate is increasing faster than the birth rate. SKW is in the process of designing a new Regional Perinatal Center (RPC) in support of this initiative, which will be located on an existing hospital campus (known as Hospital No. 10). The new eight-story hospital tower will provide a modern, state-of-the-art healthcare facility with 330 private beds and a helicopter landing area on the roof.

The RPC offers full acute care services with speciality facilities for prenatal, natal and postnatal services. Additional facilities include diagnostic imaging, emergency services with trauma triage, a surgery suite, cafeteria and dietary services. The full range of acute care services will be housed in a single building with multiple zones of controlled environments.

As an addition to an existing hospital campus, the new RPC has the opportunity to significantly improve the quality of the environment of care and increase patient satisfaction. SKW capitalized on these opportunities with a few key design themes. The first design concept is the building’s site placement facing the main boulevard, allowing it to be viewed as a community symbol of assurance and comfort. The second design concept takes advantage of an existing grove of trees at the center of the site. This attribute is being used as the welcoming entrance to the RPC, and will serve as a healing garden for patients, families and visitors.
